Kitchen chaos, PT truths, and surprise book-club love.
The kitchen renovation rolls on, and I’m now a whiz at healthy meals powered by a Yeti cooler + microwave combo (shoutout to Hungryroot and Aldi).
We’ve only caved to the siren call of takeout once. We also escaped to Greenville, NC, for my husband’s disc golf tournament, where a working sink and oven felt like a luxury resort.
Lessons earned:
1) I’d rent a coworking space for a month.
2) We’d move all the furniture to the garage for easier cleanup.
3) I’d borrow storage bins so my office doesn’t look like a kitchen yard sale.
On the body front: three months into physical therapy for a pesky glute tendinopathy. It’s expensive…and worth it. A friend recently balked at the cost for her own PT, and I get it, but zoom out—four months and $$$ over the next forty-plus years? That ROI is hard to beat. Do the exercises feel like a lot on some days? Absolutely. But our ability to move is priceless.
What if the care & kindness we easily offer to our family and friends extended out to include ourselves?
I’m treating my body like a friend. If my friend were hurting, I wouldn’t tell them to “suck it up” or keep poking their bruise (ouch!). I’d help them heal. If you’re putting off PT, a knee replacement, or that shoulder rehab, ask how you’d treat your best friend in the same situation...and then do that.
Thanks for the screenshot of your Reclaim Your Workday book club in action, Builders! Looking forward to hearing your wins!
One attendee’s BIG WIN: feeling empowered to say no to meetings wherethey weren’t an essential contributor; hours saved and optimized. Minimizing your team's time and energy spent outside their line of genius = higher company ROI.
Please explain: Why do conference venues have to be SO ridiculously COLD?
That same day, I spoke for CPA Academy, then drove to the Grandover Resort to close the NCACPA Professional Women’s Conference with Everyday Energy—a full-circle moment since my first talk for them was a decade ago (and even won an award—woot!). We dug into screen apnea (it’s real) and here's just one of the great tips I shared: try exhaling longer than you inhale to drop stress and reboot body/mind connection. It's called a physiological sigh.
Bonus: I got to cheer on my friend Dr. Sarah Glova, who opened the conference with a sharp talk on AI.

When you get this, I’ll be hosting my mom (thankfully, at an Airbnb) and prepping our costumes for Kevin's Medium HeatHalloween show at the Raleigh Berkeley Cafe. Tomorrow we'll wrap up our weekend's soundtrack with a performance of the musical Six. (Feeling lucky to have such a fun-hearted mom who is game for dressing up, singing along at the top of her lungs, and staying out well past her bedtime —if it means QT with me!) #EpicMomVisitUNLOCKED
Don't give up your mornings to another person's agenda, doomscrolling, or the one thing that, even if it's just 3 minutes, will negatively affect you 6-8 hours later. Choose “3 Before Screens” and perform three small actions before using your device.
I have some free time during my upcoming keynotes in Greenville, SC. If you're in the area on November 17 and meet the 3Ps, reply and let's meet to walk by the river or connect at a cool coffee shop in their beautiful downtown!
