Holding your breath? | Double entry ends today | Rocky Horror and HedwigI got to see my friend Geraud, one of RaderCo's coaches, play Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Show. I went as Columbia and spent the night singing and dancing with my friend TJ Cawley, who happens to be the mayor of Morrisville. Then I headed to one of my besties' Halloween parties. She went as an alien in a costume she made herself. It's the most realistic, creepy costume I've seen in years, and I've sent the picture to at least 20 people. She's so talented, and that's not a talent I have. I used to joke that I was the money and my husband was the talent, because he's a professional musician. Growing up, "talent" meant artistic to me. A few years into running a business (strategy, marketing, branding, speaking, coaching, and everything else that comes with it), I realized that's a talent too. It's just a different kind. Then my husband and I did one of the best things we've done in 33 years. No joke. Our favorite musical is Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and for the 25th anniversary we drove to Charlotte for a screening, a Q&A, and an acoustic set by John Cameron Mitchell. I also had a Maleki coffee with a new friend, Dan Gingiss, a professional speaker on customer experience. He was in town for a client and reached out to see if I wanted coffee. My husband and I picked him up, and we talked for more than two hours. He shared how he has been using Muse AI, and my husband has basically passed off all the administrative work he does as a teacher to it, and he feels so much lighter. It's been fun watching him discover new tasks to offload so he can just focus on the students and teaching. When you see me post on LinkedIn or mention here that I'm speaking in your city, reply and invite me. I'd love to take you for a walk or a coffee. More good news: I brought on new coaching and training clients this month. I spent Q2 and Q3 retiring, revamping, and creating programs, and just finished rebuilding The Remote Reset and The Meeting Reset. My Q4 priority is the logistics behind our coaching program, so it's even easier for our coaches and clients. Now, the low note. RaderCo said goodbye to Lisa, who for six years made our Weekenders, our emails, and all of our marketing materials look the way they do. She's also been one of my best friends for more than 20 years. Working with your bestie can be super fun, and we definitely made it that way. It also makes the goodbye harder. FYI, we're totally fine, still super in love and mad about each other. I'll introduce RaderCo's new operations coordinator in an upcoming Weekender. When you get this, I'll be getting ready for a weekend of mountain biking and hiking, seeing Geraud in another play, and raking the 7,682 acorns off our deck. On with the Weekender! P.S. Looking for a year-end gift for your team? The Right Things First takes about an hour to read, and every copy comes with the full audiobook. Team orders start at 10 copies. Reply with how many you need, and I'll send a quote. |
Do the right things first. Twice a month I send one prioritization practice you can use that week, plus the Health-Powered Productivity podcast, the reading, and what I'm learning on the road.
Only Handle It Once | One-on-ones on autopilot | Walkie-talkies Last week, I taught 960 accountants and finance pros how to tame their inbox through CPA Academy. At the end, everyone typed one move they'd make in the next seven days. Many of them committed to OHIO (only handle it once) or turning an email into a task instead of leaving it in the inbox. Over the last month, I've been building a new keynote, The Right Things First, which I'll deliver for the first time to a team in November....
Same thirty minutes. Same day. Same cadence for every person on your team, whether they've been in the role six days or six years. Why It Matters: A scheduled cadence doesn't serve anyone. A new hire might need you weekly. Someone senior might need you every three weeks. And it should never run the full hour, since back-to-back meetings leave no room to act on what you just discussed. One Thing You Can Do Now: Pick one person on your team. Ask them how often they actually want to meet, and...
