Hi Reader,

Wow, it's been an eventful three weeks packed with exciting updates!

πŸŽ‰ I had the incredible opportunity to present not once, but twice, to the United States Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. We dove into the world of Time Power-Ups and Email Extinguisher, exploring how to conquer that post-vacation inbox frenzy. The best part? Theotric White, the IT Program Manager, was so inspired that he changed his out-of-office message on the spot, gearing up for a week of fishing fun after our session.

Speaking of inspiring missions, let me share some heartwarming news from RaderCo. We're all about making a positive impact and proudly supporting two incredible causes - the Work Meaningful Foundation and Kiva. We've been helping women business owners in various countries, and this quarter, we teamed up with Lucy in Ghana. She's on a mission to expand her store's cosmetics and home products collection, and with our support, she's set to shine even brighter. When Lucy pays it forward, we'll keep the cycle going to uplift more deserving female entrepreneurs!

Now, get ready for some major feel-good vibes. The Work Meaningful Foundation, championed by the remarkable Justin Jones-Fosu, is making waves in education initiatives across Africa and the US. We're talking 90 dual desks, access to clean water, and a middle school on the rise in Kumasi, Ghana. And guess what? The AfrocareCLT gala is on the horizon! If you're in Charlotte, NC, mark your calendar for September 19th - it's a night of giving back, celebrating, and snagging gorgeous Ghanaian art.

Let's groove into the music scene for a moment. I had a blast catching Kevin perform with not one, but two of his bands. 🎡 Jack the Radio's latest video, "Walk All Over Me," had a great release.

This week, I got my flu shot. Did you know exercising after receiving the flu or COVID-19 vaccine may enhance the effects and boost your body's immune response, especially for older populations and people who already exercise? Since it was 100+ degrees, I drove home and rode my FitBike while working to boost my serum antibodies. Think about scheduling time to move after your next vaccine shot. Walkie-talkie anyone?

Mini-celebrations were in order, starting with a pedicure at Relax Foot Spa with my friend Annette for her new job with Raven Solomon Enterprises, birthday donuts at the incredible Plant Cakes Bake Shop, Marcey's Crispy Brussel Sprouts at Mookie's New York Deli, and a blissful massage at Athletic Edge.

And speaking of birthdays, guess what? Today's the day! πŸŽ‚ I'm turning 49 and embracing it ALL. I spent quality time at Full Bloom Coffee last week, jotting down 50 things I want to experience before hitting the big 5-0. I reached out to a couple of list-loving pals, and their milestone birthday goals are just as inspiring - from beach photoshoots, reading six books on isms, and even checking off bucket list items like attending an Elton John concert and visiting at least one national park. Stay tuned, because I'll be sharing my adventures as the year unfolds!

When you get this, who knows what I'll be doing because I hand over the reins to Kevin on my birthday weekend, which at some point may include mountain biking and ice cream. Tomorrow, I'll be at the Hopscotch Music Festival Day Party, watching live bands all day. If you're local to the Triangle, come and find me!

On with the Weekender!

PRODUCTIVITY POWER TIP

digital downsizing: embracing true presence in a connected world

Digital Detox is a scary word that isn't always realistic or necessary. I explored the concept of digital downsizing. I often thought I was unplugged until two experiences I had this summer, and then I understood what it felt like to be genuinely present. guess what? it's up to your company, not just you, to banish burnout!

I spoke with Andi Simon about how companies look at their wellness programs from an outdated lens and put too much responsibility on their staff. It's more than just meditation apps & yoga classes.

RECENT BOOK REVIEW

stupid things I won't do when I get old: a highly judgmental, unapologetically honest accounting of all the things our elders are doing wrong

Petrow challenges aging stereotypes and promotes active living regardless of age. As an advocate for health and wellness, I appreciate his emphasis on staying mentally and physically agile, emphasizing that aging should be an impetus for engagement and involvement rather than decline. A testament that age is an opportunity, not a constraint.
