RaderCo - Weekender Snapshot

Woot, woot!

Celebrating my 11th business anniversary on July 16 was perfect timing with so many cool happenings this year. We jazzed up both the RaderCo and Marcey Rader websites and rolled out my brand-new speaker reel, showcasing the core message I deliver in keynotes, training, and coaching. It was a big investment but totally worth it, and Video Narrative nailed it!

Watch it below and let me know what you think! If you know a team, organization, or meeting professional who could use this message, please share it with them.

I also had the honor of being the opening keynote for Visit Raleigh and helped meeting professionals Elevate Their Focus.

It was one of the best small conferences I've presented at in 11 years – well-organized, super-fun emcees, a fantastic venue at the Westin RTP, delicious buffet, local gifts (hello, Headbands of Hope!), and a give-back exercise for Oak City Cares. Plus, my suit perfectly matched their event colors! #Extra

On the personal front, I celebrated my 26th wedding anniversary with our annual reflections, an hour in a sensory deprivation tank, Laotian food, and Ben & Jerry's. B&J was our first date on October 19, 1993; we've had it every month since.

Yep, for 31 years!

When you get this, I'll be out of the office for the next two weeks. I'm in the wedding of my amazing friend Justin Jones-Fosu and we're also opening a middle school in Akyremade, Ghana, through the Work Meaningful Foundation. Then, I'm back for one day before heading to the National Speaker Association Influence conference in Denver for a whole week. I'll be back in the office working with the coolest clients ever on August 13! Wanna be one?

On with the Weekender!

Deep focus doesn't happen because you decided to concentrate harder. It happens because you set the right conditions. Your environment, your mindset, and your energy level all either support focused work or work against it. Most focus advice stops at removing distractions. That's necessary but not sufficient. Why it matters: Missing even one of the three attention anchors means the other two carry more weight than they should Without intentional conditions, deep work gets replaced by the...

Mountains, karaoke, and the Hope Diamond Last week, Kevin and I joined my parents, siblings, and two nieces in Asheville, North Carolina, one of my favorite cities in the country, for our first family vacation since I was a kid. We hiked Catawba Falls with my mom (which included 535 steep steps), roasted s'mores, sang karaoke (for the record, "Islands in the Stream" and "Blame It on the Rain" are much harder than they sound...), played games, and took a ghost tour. Did you know the Hope...

How many of you feel like you are Siri or Alexa to your team? If they reach out, you must respond immediately. And if you reach out to someone and it's been 32 seconds, what's taking them so long? Why it matters: Instant replies train your team to expect them, which means you've made yourself their Siri permanently. Constant urgency raises cortisol, which compromises decision-making. Nobody solves the big problem over emails. Sometimes, waiting to respond is the most developmental thing you...
