RaderCo - Weekender Snapshot

I love getting emails like the one above after presenting at a conference. Sometimes, the simple things can seem scary, but they can make such a big difference when we experiment and test them. We can always return to our old ways (efficient or not), but we must find out if something works better.

In honor of International Women's Day - if you think you're too old to experiment or change, get inspired by 89-year-old Flo Meiler, who started running track at age 60 and has won over 1,040 medals!

Her motto: "Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going."

Now that's a RaderCo winner!

Special Request: In 2022, I embarked on a life-altering journey to Ghana. Visiting the dire conditions in a local school in Akyremade, where students lacked basic amenities like toilets, were squeezed into overcrowded classrooms, and studied in spaces without walls, made me want to do something big, especially because those same children were so grateful for the few books we brought and the stories we shared.

When the Work Meaningful Foundation invited me to join as a board member, my response was a HELL YES. Count me in to champion and finance educational initiatives across Africa and the United States!

I'll be visiting Akyremade in July of 2024 for the grand opening of their new middle school. We have already made so much progress! My personal goal is $3000 by the end of June or 50 people to donate any amount before my 50th birthday on September 8.

Will you be a helper to a young student in Ghana?

Last weekend, I surprised my husband for his birthday with a trip to Manhattan to visit friends and check out the Fotografiska Museum. I realized that I would not want my husband to surprise me the same way. I would want control over my packing!

I'm in Albuquerque for the National Speakers Association Thrive Winter Workshop. I flew in early with Belonging Expert Wendy Gates Corbett for a Design Day and spa time. My Design Day was spent finalizing my TEDxNCState slides and categorizing and planning our 100 podcasts to make them easier for you to find and binge-listen to by topic. Have you used any of our podcasts for team training? If so, reply and let me know which ones.

When you get this, I'll be gearing up for a weekend of learning more about neuroscience in speaking and responsible artificial intelligence.

On with the Weekender!

My Little Free Library is finally ready to launch, and I’m ridiculously excited. My handy husband has spent the last month building it, and this weekend we’ll officially open it up to the neighborhood. It’s one of my Top Three personal priorities for the year, so this one feels extra good. To celebrate, I hosted a Books & Banter party with six girlfriends. Everyone brought one book to swap and one to donate, and we answered two questions: What was a pivotal book you read as a child? What’s...

Long lines at the airport last week gave me a timely reminder of a leadership problem I see everywhere at work. Leaders sometimes fix what’s visible instead of what’s broken. The result is just better optics, not better outcomes. There’s a reason this topic is hitting a nerve. Asana reports that knowledge workers spend 60% of their time on “work about work,” and Microsoft reports that employees are interrupted every two minutes by meetings, emails, or pings. That is not a time-management...

You don't need another meeting. You need a message that lands without stealing an hour of focus. Why it matters: • Short async vidoes force clarity and speed decisions. • A single swap can return 26 hours per person per year. What you’ll learn: • When Loom beats a meeting • The five‑part structure that keeps it under five minutes • Weekly swaps to test now • Metrics to track in 30 days Tactics: • Lead with one line: “I am recommending X by Friday because Y.” • Use Loom for tone, visuals, and...
